Re: Kingsrow International + endgame databases is available

The checkers/draughts home page has always been here: http://edgilbert.org/Checkers/KingsRow.htm, but I have removed the page for selling the 10x10 draughts version. I've been doing some work on the 8x8 versions, and when I finish I plan to make the 10x10 version freely available.

Preliminary announcement new computerdraughts tournament on may the 19th 2019

I received this today from Leo Nagels. -- Ed ---------------------------------------------- Yesterday I received an invitation from the computerchess community to join them in organising a computer mindsport tournament at the same location as their chess computer tournament in the weekend of the 18t...

I agree that this opening looks like a loss. I will remove it from kingsrow's 3-move engine match list.

Re: How to check

While it is possible to write a program that only runs on Intel and not AMD, it is unlikely that a draughts program would be written in such a way to run on only one of them. AMD would not sell many processors if they couldn't run nearly all programs that run on Intel.

Using PEXT on AMD processors

After Joost Buijs wrote on another forum that the PEXT instruction is very slow on AMD processors, I decided to check it, as kingsrow uses PEXT in the indexing for the eval function. I check if PEXT is available and use it if it is. It normally gives about a 10% search speedup. If PEXT is not availa...

Re: maximum niumber of legal moves

Looks like I will have to increase the size of my movelist. I had not expected more than 128 moves.

Re: AMD - Scan 3.0 - Problem

Thanks to Ed. And you do not know what Dragon uses. No idea. The issue with PEXT is only a question of speed, not about crashing. Kingsrow will detect if PEXT is available and not use it if it is not supported by the processor. If it is supported but very slow, as on AMD, it will still use it. -- Ed

Re: AMD - Scan 3.0 - Problem

I have a question about the Scan 3.0 program and people using the AMD processor. I wanted to run Scan 3.0 under Windows 10 64 bit but there were problems. I will just add that with the cmd command. I have a request for people using the AMD processor if someone started Scan 3.0 with the cmd command....

Does sock.send('CHello world') send a null character at the end of the text? DXP needs the nulls as message terminators.

Re: Distance to Win, MTC, endgame database

Most stronger program don't see the win, but Kingsrow with MTC database see the win, Flits also. But with the normal 8egdb Kingsrow don't see it. When you say "see the win", I don't think you mean "sees that the position is a black win". Kingsrow can see that this is a black win. What you mean is t...

Re: Breakthrough Draughts

My guess is that the patterns themselves can do the count. Maybe patterns with more man get higher values and it is regulated that way, albeit with some loss of accuracy. Thanks, that sounds like a reasonable explanation. I had added a tempo eval and seen only a tiny improvement. Now I understand w...
